Good day sir, how does one respond to people who try to make you believe because you are not perfect that you will be punished by God for the slightest infraction and that God is so punitive?

Response:

The simplest thing to do is ignore them. Engaging them in a theological discussion of a punitive God will be fruitless since their beliefs are immune to rational discourse. Silently send them love and go your way.
